Hello, my name is Dan Jones.
I’m an artist and human rights campaigner living in London’s East End. For many years I have collected and illustrated children’s playground games, songs and nursery rhymes from around the world. (Look out for these books of Nursery Rhymes, “Inky, Pinky, Ponky” and “Mother Goose comes to Cable St,” both published in the eighties).
I also paint murals and large panoramic works – often of political scenes. I use paint and collage to create my artwork and usually include portraits of people I know. There is a story behind every picture.
In December 2014 a few of my friends persuaded me to tell some of the stories as part of a performance event called ‘Tales From The Ditch’ at Shoreditch Town Hall. Those friends are storytellers and I loved their stories so much I illustrated them too!
This website brings it all together to present East End Portraits – lesser known stories and histories of the area and people we love. Some true, some remembered, some imagined but all short and sweet!
